Brookfield (BCE) Place, Toronto Canada

The Brookfield Place in Toronto, Canada has two towers, the Bay Wellington Tower and the TD Canada Trust Tower, which are connected by the magnificant Allen Lambert Galleria. This lobby is another masterpiece from Santiago Calatrava. The skeletal vaulted ceiling with his typical organic engineered style was meant to be like passing through an avenue of trees. The historic financial structures, once called by the Globe, “the most valuable business block in the city” are preserved within this megastructure. As always, it’s about light penetrating structure to evoke space. The towers aren’t much imo but this “crystal cathedral of commerce” is monumental.
