Walker Art Museum, Minneapolis Minnesota

Here’s another Herzog and de Meuron, an expansion to the Walker Art Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The museum was first built in 1879 and focused on modern art in the 1940’s. This $67 million addition doubled the size of the museum, with 11,000 feet2 of gallery space, a theater, restaurant, and bookstore. Like the DeYoung museum, Herzog focuses the complex on a massive metal tower. In this case, however, the aluminum plays against the historic stone around it.
