Stadthaus City Hall, Ulm Germany

Richard Meier designed Stadthaus Ulm as part of the town Neue Mitte. The exhibition center near historic Ulm Minster cathedral was completed in 199.

An open staircase winds around a circular section to connect all four levels. Spanish Rosa Dante granite comes together with the typical white form of Meier’s modernism. The old cathedral church surely influenced the gaps in structure and extruded forms to give complexity and character. It is a temporal form that grasps contemporary art of the time and ever-changing urban environment.
