Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2007, Kensington Gardens London

Artist Olafur Eliasson and Norwegian architect Kjetil Thorsen of Snøhetta designed the . Similarities can be seen with the Oslo Opera House which the two collaborated on as well.

Metal clads a timber structure in a dramatic spiral. White sun shades twist along this curve to suggest a gradual change as the visitor ascends the spiral staircase. Perspective of the gardens changes. Inside, steps formed like geographic crusts descend deeper into an inner void as the staircase leads up to a viewing deck of the gardens. The design is built around the ways visitors socially interact with the park, with each other, and with the architecture.
