Rødovre Town Hall, Rødovre Denmark

Arne Jacobsen designed the Rodovre Town Hall, completed in 1969. The new functionality of structure that came about with Bauhaus results in a minimalist and rational structure. In this building, Jacobsen first created a central staircase suspended by thin steel rods and lined with glass railings. A truly modern innovation, this staircase contrasts with the building’s other staircase, a swirling wooden flight of stairs resting on bunting square columns. From light fixtures to window details, the right angle and circular shape are abstracted to the extreme.
