Omotesando Hills, Tokyo Japan

A success of mixed-use architecture, the Omote Sando Hills in Tokyo combines residential and retail in a truly creative way. Tadao Ando designed this famous complex on Omotesandō street in Aoyama.Ando uses his typical concrete and glazing theme in pods of apartments to bring complexity into the whole. The six layers of shopping come together in a complex beauty in the “space O” spiral staircase in the center. The flashiness has brought some criticism.
