Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Wisconsin

Here’s Santiago Calatrava’s first project in the United States, the Quadracci Pavilion for the Milwaukee Art Museum. Existing founatains and gardens provide a comfortable site for Calatrava’s shaping of light and form. Soaring white concrete structure with glass penetrations invites the mind to creatively soar to the sun. This 2001 addition increased gallery space by thirty percent, as well as a parking garage and visitors amenities.

The 250 ft Reiman Bridge brings people from downtown Milwaukee to the lakefront of Lake Michigan. From there, a tall parabolic reception room of glass and vertical steel with a moveable sun screen spreads its wings in a gesture to the vast gallery of over over 25,000 pieces.
