Galeries Lafayette Friedrichstrasse, Berlin Germany

Jean Nouvel designed the Galeries Lafayette in Berlin’s Friedrichstrasse in 1996.

It is no accident that Nouvel’s post-modernist design, this reinvention of the traditional shopping palace, takes on a scientific look. Glazed cones imitate the Paris Galeries atrium, sometimes inverting and sometimes rising clear past the roof-line. They aren’t functional or nor really building a particular experience, but they are curious.
