Beijing Capital Airport Terminal 3, Beijing China

Foster and Partners, NACO, and Arup designed Terminal 3 (or “E” section) of the Beijing Capital International Airport in the Chaoyang District of Beijing. This is the second largest airport terminal in the world, accommodating some of the airport’s 55.94 million passengers per year. It is the largest expansion of an airport ever completed, and was built in record time.

Ever obsessed with buildings that symbolize power, China’s airport symbolizes a dragon which engulfs the train station, in the shape of a turtle. The colors and forms evoke traditional Chinese symbols and provide an invigorating and uplifting experience.

Foster considered Feng Shui as well as modern digital technology to make an efficient yet comfortable environment. It celebrates the structure and welcomes natural light.
