The avant-garde Graz Kunsthaus art museum by architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier is stunning along the historic urban setting of the Mur river and Schloßberg castle. This project was a celebration of Graz as a European Capital of Culture. Built in 2003, it is a staple of the so-called “blob architecture.”
Fluorescent rings illuminate the “communicating outer skin” to speak of new media and the traditional built environment. The interior is a “black box of hidden tricks” that houses temporary installations of contemporary art. Bridges in the upper floor connect to the historic cast-iron Eisernes Haus.
