Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, Minato Japan

This is one of the largest public aquariums in the world, the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan 海遊館 designed by Peter Chermayeff. There are sixteen large walk-through tanks, the largest holding 5,400m2 of water. It’s located close to Osakako Station by Osakako Bay.

From a long public square, one approaches the entrance which is divided symmetrically by two enormous prisms of steel and glass that touch the sky. The interior is largely cut off from sunlight except the blue that shines through the glass walls of the display tanks.
