Bridge Pavilion, 2008 Expo Zaragoza Spain

Zaha Hadid’s contribution to the Expo 2008 in Zaragoza, Spain. This pedestrian bridge across the river Ebro acts as a gateway to the Expo, focusing the visitor on water sustainability. The bridge has a diamond-shaped section for structural stability, and four structural pods that reach the water’s surface that likewise offer programmatic possibilities. These pods are organized, stacked and shifted, so as to optimize the structural system. The structural is minimized with shared load-bearing. This also creates differential exhibition spaces inside with particular identities. Glass fiber concrete in 29,000 triangles of diverse grey cover this 275 m long bridge.
