Webb Bridge, Melboune Australia

Another Denton Corker Marshall iconic work for Australia. Completed in 2003, Arup engineered and artist Robert Owen took a large role in the design for this bridge pedestrian for the Docklands Authority of Melbourne. Arup said, “Close collaboration between the architect, artist and Arup’s engineers and lighting designer was the key to this successful outcome.” It serves as a vital pedestrian link for the north Docklands to the new housing developments to the south. The “writhing, tubular structure” also incorporates two existing segments of the previous bridge. It won the 2005 RAIA Joseph Reed Award.
