Santa Monica Public Library, California

By MRY Architects, the Santa Monica library is a gold LEED certified building. A 200,000-gallon cistern captures rainwater for reuse in irrigation. Rooftop solar electric panels contribute to energy usage. Careful daylighting mixed with flashy library exhibitions makes for an interesting space. Sidelighting makes reading comfortable in the appropriate spaces. The courtyard is most amazing, a quiet green space with some interesting shading and building facades.
