Palácio do Planalto, Brasília Brazil

Oscar Niemeyer designed the President’s workplace, the Palace of the Highlands at the Praça dos Três Poderes in Brasília, Brazil. It was completed in 1958 and recently restored.

The central 36,000m2 building includes four adjacent structures around the plaza of Three Powers Square. The Brazilian modernist building uses concrete structure to lift up ribbon window exterior walls with a reflecting pool surrounding the entire form. The exterior buttresses meet the ground very gingerly.
