Osaka Dome, Osaka Japan

Nikken Sekkei, Ltd. designed the (Kyocera) Osaka Dome in 1997. This baseball stadium has also facilitated concerts by the world’s top musical artists. The ceiling moves according to acoustic and weather needs.

The obvious marine look references Osaka’s significance as a sea-port and the city’s culinary delights. Circulation is emphasized on the exterior, and structure is emphasized on the interior, much like a Star Wars spaceship. Reflective metal exterior sheathing somehow fits in the context and emphasizes the dome as an important destination point.
