Niterói Contemporary Art Museum, Rio de Janeiro Brazil

The Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói (MAC) is a staple of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Oscar Niemeyer designed this museum perched on the ciff in the city of Niterói. The disk stretches out over the 817m2 reflecting pool underneath. The UFO shape is quite intentional. The visitor approaches the disk in a snaking, red-carpet path through the air.It opened in 1996 to a huge scandal.
