Monumenta 2008, Grand Palais Paris

Richard Serra is well known for his large sculptures of rusty metal ribbons. In his “Monumenta 2008 : Promenade” exhibit in Le Grand Palais, he repeated these ribbons vertically. The iron red compliments the green iron-work of the building structure. It creates a nice juxtaposition of glass panels with iron sheets, curved barrel vaults and rigid vertical interior. The Grand Palais was designed by Charles Girault (with three other architects) for France’s 1900 exhibition. This Beaux-Arts building celebrated the visual culture of the city while opening vast interiors to great amounts of sunlight.

The following images include other exhibits: Machines du Spectacle and TAG Expo.
