Mikimoto Ginza 2, Ginza Tokyo

Toyo Ito and Ichiro Nishiwaki designed the Mikimoto Ginza 2 in 2005. The pink-tinted exterior shines like a pearl with irregular openings glistening gold light, which is appropriate for a jewelry store. The pearl exterior is well detailed, with seamless transition from wall to window and a thin crust appearance. The interior continues the same awkward gesture of flowing elegance and abrupt angle changes.

Ito’s trademark windows don’t seem to translate well to the interior experience, but act as a billboard for for a glitzy shopping store. Perhaps they should have invested more into security cameras. But is an interesting spectacle!
