Masia Freixa, Terrassa Catalonia Spain

Louis Muncunill and Parellada designed the Masia Freixa home for textile manufacturer Josep Lluis Freixa Muncunil in 1896. Inspired by Gaudi, this building started Terrassenc modernism.

The form combines traditional building and materials with modern Catalan vaults, shapes, and materials. Traditional arcades establish porches on the south and west sides, but with a parabolic shape first explored by Gaudi, with windows that reflect this odd shape. A looming white tower and embedded crystals in the exterior material reflect traditional methods.
