Hayward Gallery, London England

The Hayward Gallery in London is on the south bank of the Thames in London near several other important entertainment venues. It’s brutalist style has been criticized, and there’s been a lot done to pretty it up since it opened in 1968.

Hubert Bennett designed this museum for contemporary art exhibits, no permanent collections. The flat roofs of the upper floor have pyramidal skylights that heavily filter daylight. This is connected to the lower level which has plenty of parking by twin concrete staircases. An additional glass observation dome can be seen in the front.

The Londoners don’t seem to like this building. And rightly so, because it doesn’t fit in at all.
