Cultural Centre, Seinäjoki Finland

The Aalto Centre in Seinäjoki shows the Finnish taste of clean and timeless language in form. Completed during eight years starting in 1960, it consists of 6 buildings: the City Library, the Lakeuden Risti Church, a central civic square, City Hall, State Office Building, and City Theatre. Not only is Alvar Aalto’s contribution to his home town is clean and precise but it also brings a clear center to the town and regional style.

Each building assumes particular historical influences, such as the medieval elements of the church. The careful choice of materials also brings the characteristics of warmer and brighter climates. And as always, Aalto paid careful attention to lighting in this dark region. The materials also emphasized the lighting by building as experience from black granite to bright white destinations.
