City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia Spain

There’s not enough room for pictures to do this project justice. Santiago Calatrava’s masterpiece in his home town Valenzia, Spain uses water as a mirror of architecture, deriving the organic shapes from sea elements, with white concrete and fragments of tiles. This large city of celebration for art and science was built on an old dried out river bed between Valencia and Nazaret.

Two bridges cross the seven kilometer promenade, dividing gardens and reflecting pools. The composition includes a Planetarium, parking structure, Science Museum, Palace of Arts, and Underwater city with underground cinemas, library, auditoria, and restaurants. The Opera House has had problems since it opened in 2005, predictably from flooding.
