Casa Batlló, Barcelona Spain

Antoni Gaudí and Josep Maria Jujol completed their remodel of this 1877 residence in 1907. It has since been known as Casa dels ossos in Barcelona because of the organic structural “bone” quality.

The hand craft of this apartment building for textile industrialist Josep Batlló uses no straight edges, but hand-placed tile, ceramic, and plaster.
The colorful tiles on the roof give way to gestural chimneys that protrude out in an innovative way. Movement and structure develop a truly interesting interior.
