Bregenz Festspiel/Kongresshaus, Austria

Untertrifaller architects and M. Untertrifaller designed the new extension for the Bregenz performance center. The Vienna symphony received an outdoor performance venue with commanding views over the water. The events that occur in each space determined their visual characteristics. Foyers are minimally dressed and have transparent connections to the major venues, like the great hall which seats 7,000.

Bregenz festival was founded in 1946 and received its own concert hall in 1980. This extensive addition was completed in 2006 and cost € 40 million. The floating stage can easily shift to accommodate the acoustic needs for various types of performances.
