Berlin Philharmonic Concert Hall, Berlin

Hans Scharoun designed the Berliner Philharmoniker, completed in 1963. The previous concert hall had been destroyed by bombing raids in 1944. The Kammermusiksaal hall completed Sharoun’s Kulturforum in 1987. Web-users were invited to enter the building with the 2008 Digital Concert hall which broadcasts performances over the internet.

The yellow sweeping organic forms help acoustics in the seating, an Expressionist design. The tent-like form is subject to needs of structure and interior functions. The audience is broken up into sections and the stage surrounded by seats. The Neue Nationalgalerie also stands on the Kulturforum in Berlin’s Tiergarten.
