Aqua Building, Chicago Illinois

James R. Loewenberg sought a fresh young architect for the large mixed-use residential Aqua Building near Millennium Park in Chicago. Unknown architect Jeanne Gang didn’t disappoint, with sculpture glass edifice surrounding by flowing white balconies. It’s a far cry from Magellan Development’s recent Park Millennium Tower, which was impressively tall but very ugly.

The skyscraper opened in 2010, with 55,000 square feet of office space, 215 hotels rooms, and 263 living units. At 819 ft it is dwarfed by the Trump Tower, but the pearly white balconies that gingerly extend out 12 feet at the most, certainly makes it a sight for the eye.
