Agora Theatre, Lelystad Netherlands

Lelystad in Netherlands is receiving a huge revitalization in its town center, and the Agora Theatre by Ben van Berkel with UNstudio is the crowning piece. The expression of change in the theater’s kaleidescopic form is enhanced by the color scheme. The colors were derived from the skyline of the city, the orange of a sunset and the blue of a clear summer sky. The exterior is orange, the foyer is pink, and like any respectable performance hall the interior is red. The inter-story connections are apparent with brief flashes between the inside and outside, the foyer and the entrace, the cafe and the evening square, through openings, fragmented windows and skylights. The perferated metal cladding further adds to the this effect.
