34th Street – Hudson Yards Station, New York

WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff and Dattner Architects designed the 7 IRT Flushing Line subway extension to New York’s 34th Street-Hudson Yards. As part of the Hudson Yards redevelopment, this project was bid in an attempt to get the 2012 Olympics. But the Olympics went to London instead, and this project completed 3 years late, in 2015.

The entrance is a lot like London’s Canary Wharf Underground. In fact, it is almost identical–an arched glazed dome in the midst of greenery, in the midst of an urban landscape. Colorful mosaics with swirling geometric patterns decorate the ceilings as escalators descend to the tick office. Lighting is sufficient and interiors are sleek metal.
